Plant Mission
Just for Students February 19th, 2009Students:
We know that all energy comes from the sun. Let’s learn more about how plants need and use the sun. To complete this mission, do the following:
1. Login to your Pearson account and read “Plants.”
2. Post your answers to the reader response questions here in complete sentences.
3. Turn in your plant diagram, labeled with the major parts of plants and their functions.
4. BONUS-Explain why leaves are called the food-making part of the plant. Describe what photosynthesis means, and tell how chlorophyll is used in this process. -Mrs. Neely

February 19th, 2009 at 2:27 pm
1. The main parts of a plant are the roots, stem, leaves and the flower.
2. A prairie is a place with a lot of grass and few trees.
3. The spine of a cactus can help it, beacause the tips of the cactus can collect dew drops, and the dew drops can go through the plant for food.

Way to go with your early response, Katie! Did you already turn in that beautiful plant diagram you showed me? Oh, and don’t forget about the BONUS portion of the mission, Katie & everyone else!

Eva and Charnae, I’m pleased that you responded! As we learn more about photosynthesis in class, feel free to modify your answers, if needed

What did I learn?
1.The four main parts of the plant are the leaves, the stem, the roots, and the flowers.
2.A prairie is a place where lost of grass grows but only a few trees.
3.Spines from cactus help them survive because it hold dewdrops that fall in the ground and gives water to the roots.
4.If an animals falls in a Sundews plant, the plant snaps shut and uses it as nutrients.
Bonus- The leaves are called the food-making of the plant because it provides food for the plant by using the sunlight air and water. Photosynthesis means when the plants used the leaves to absord the sunlight and making it into energy and releases oxygen. Chorophyll is used in the process of carring energy in the photosynthesis.

1. roots,stem,flower,leaves
2. A prairie is an environment with lots of grass and few
trees.
3. The spines help the plants protect itself from thirsty
animals. Also the spine tips hold dew drops which feed
the plant.
4. I predict the insect will stick to the leave and the
plant will eat the insect.

Marcus, Keishon & Lyanette – Very good posts. Marcus & Keishon, don’t forget about the BONUS.

1.The four main parts of a plant are roots, stem, leaves, and flowers.
2.A prairie is an evovirment with lot of grass few trees.
3.If the animals try to take something they will be poked by the spines.
4.It will get stuck.
Bonus: Photosynthesis is how green plants make food using enegry from sunlight, carbon dioxide and water. Chlorophyll absorbs light from the sun and turns it into energy (food) for the plant.

Tamyra-Excellent explanation of photosynthesis.
February 20th, 2009 at 11:01 am
1.The 4 parts are the roots, stem, leaves, cell and flower. 2.A prairie is an enviroment with lots of grass and few tree.
3.A cactus needs sunlight, air and space.
4.If a flower is sticky and a bug lands on it, it will get stuck and die.
5. Photosynthesis is the food-making process of plants. Chlorophyll is the substance that makes plants green. Plants use energy from the sun with chlorophyll to make food.

Shakeir-I’m proud of you for staying so focused on getting this mission completed. Good job!

1.The four main parts of a plant are: stem, roots, leaves, and the flowers.
2. A prairie is an environment with lots of grass and few trees.
3. I think the spine of a cactus holds dewdrops (or water), which falls onto the ground feeding the cactus.
4. An insect that lands on a sundew plant will probably get stuck and die.
Bonus: Leaves are called the food- making part of the plant because they provide food for the plant. Photosynthesis is the food-making process of a plant. Chlorophyll is used in this process by helping the plant get energy from the sun to make food.

Excellent, Justin! Just excellent!

1.The four main parts of mains root, stem, leaves and flowers.
2.A praire is an environment with lots of grass and few trees.
3.It’s survive by dewdrops into the soil and feeds the plant.
4.The sundew plant will trap the inscect for food.
Bonous=Leaves use sunlight, sunlight, air, and water to makr food for a plant. The process in green plants and certain other organisms by which carbohidrates are syntheaized from carbon dioxide and water using light as an energy source.

Very good, Cariel.
Keishon, Marcus, Katie & Eva – There’s still time to answer #4 completely and accurately. Remember, you can use your science book, the blue sheet completed in class, or the Internet for answers.

1.The main parts of a plant is the flower, buds, stem, and roots.2.A prairie is a place with lots of grass and few trees.3.The spines on a cactus are there to protect it from thirsty animals.4.The bugs that land on the sundew plant it will get eaten.

Bonus-Leaves help plants get the light and air they need, and they get the most light and air.Photosynthesis means-the food-making process of a plant. In this food making process chlorophyll is used to helps a plant use energy from the sun to make food.

Excellent response, Alexandria! It’s great to see your posts.
